Further information concerning upcoming elections and additional open positions

Good day,Just an update on the Wednesday, January 28th, 2015 monthly general membership meeting.

As per our Bylaws, the January general membership meeting sees nominations close for positions to be elected at the February general membership meeting for Executive, Trustee, and various Committee Chair/Rep positions.

Nominations for Executive/Trustee positions elected in the odd year were:

President, Chief Shop Steward, Recording-Secretary, and one Three Year Trustee position.

Committee Chairperson/Reps positions open for election this year were:

Aboriginal Advocacy Chair, Good of the Union Rep, Occupational Health & Safety Committee Rep (one position of the four elected positions), Job Evaluation Co-Chair, Employee Recognition Committee Rep, and the Senate Committee on University Budget (SCUB) Rep.

Positions Acclaimed or set for election at the February membership meeting:

President – Caroline Sewell – acclaimed;

Chief Shop Steward – Andrew Whyte & Amy Clapperton have allowed their name to stand for election. Andrew Whyte is currently the Acting Chief Shop Steward as Lori Olson has decided not to run again given family commitments. Thank you for all your efforts on behalf of our membership Lori, you have been an advocate for so many during your term;

Recording-Secretary – Amy Beyer has decided to vacate her position given future commitments she is taking on. No one allowed their name to stand for the position so this will go forward to the February meeting. Amy has stated she will remain in the position pending someone being elected or acclaimed into the role. Thank you Amy;

Trustee Three Year Term ending 2018 – Matthew Bellerive – acclaimed;

Aboriginal Advocacy Committee Chairperson – vacant with no nominations – going forward to the February meeting;

Good of the Union Rep – Amy Clapperton – acclaimed;

Occupational Health & Safety Committee Co-Chair – Joyce Henley & Deb Scweder have allowed their name to stand for election;

Job Evaluation Co-Chair – Carol Fedyk & Amy Clapperton have allowed their name to stand for election;

Employee Recognition Committee Rep – Deb Nielsen – acclaimed;

Senate Committee on University Budget (SCUB) – John Orlowsky – acclamation pending. Will follow up with John at the February general membership meeting for his decision on accepting the role.

Following the membership meeting, the Executive received two resignations:

Dawn Gonzalez has decided to step down as Sergeant-At-Arms citing personal reasons. This position will be open for nomination, acclimation or election at the February general membership meeting. Thank you for all your efforts on behalf of the membership Dawn.

Brenda Christensen has also resigned her position as Secretary-Treasurer for personal reasons. This position will be open for nomination, acclimation or election at the February general membership meeting. Thank you for all your efforts on behalf of the membership Brenda.

So, to sum up, the current Executive & Trustee is composed of:

President – Caroline Sewell;
Vice-President – Dale Laluk;
Chief Shop Steward – Andrew Whyte, Acting Chief Shop Steward – election in February;
Secretary-Treasuer – Vacant – election in February;
Recording-Secretary – Vacant with Amy Beyer staying on until position filled – election in February;
Sergeant-At-Arms – Vacant – election in February;
Trustee One Year (ending 2016) – Annick Pereira;
Trustee Two Year (ending 2017) – Bill Koocher;
Trustee Three Year (ending 2018) – Matthew Bellerive.

If you have been thinking about becoming more involved with the Executive, now is a great time to give serious consideration to putting your name forward for one of the vacant positions.
