Picket line operations outlined for CUPE support of the UNBC Faculty Strike

Caroline has sent out a variety of Q & A’s and has been answering no shortage of emails from individuals concerning the overall strike details.

This post is more concerning the actual picket line operations, as I will be your lead strike captain during the faculty strike.

We have arranged for a shuttle bus to operate between the CN Centre ( Park down towards the soccer fields ) and the UNBC Main Entrance for Thursday. The shuttle will run 7:30 am to 8:30 am, 11:30 am to 12:30 pm, 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm and finally 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm. The timing of the runs on Friday will be determined and sent out via email late Thursday.

As each member is expected to be on the picket line for a period of 4 hours in order to earn strike pay it is important that you sign in upon arrival with the strike captain and again when you leave. There will be a table set up at the entrance to the main campus to sign the membership list.

It will be beneficial for the membership to stagger their attendance on the picket line. Please choose the 8 am, Noon or 4 Pm shift as it may work into your personal schedule. NOTE: If at anytime the picket line is taken down by the faculty it is important for you to report to work. If the line goes down we will send out an email right away, update the web site and try to get the information out through the media.

For the members working at WIDC, BMO or any place where a faculty strike line may be set up and we don’t have a strike captain present you will be able to sign a “guest” sheet with the faculty. Ensure you sign in and out. Upon signing out, please take a picture of your name and email it to contact@cupe3799.ca . If you don’t have a smart phone, I am sure someone on the line will be able to assist you.

The staff in Terrace will be coordinated by Deidre Quinlan.

In Solidarity,

Dale Vice President CUPE#3799
